Meet Naomi, your web coach & wing woman
I've spent years sitting alongside small business owners who are brilliant at what they do, but struggle to fit mastering the technical stuff into their calendar. My happy place is that moment where a client goes from "I hate all this tech stuff" to "oh, I get it… I can do this."
A bit of background
I grew up in a world without tech, running about the highlands of Scotland! I'll never forget as the first computers came into my life, I loved them immediately! Not that my mum would put up with much time playing on them.
The early years
I grew up with skills in technical, practical & art and this culminating in me studying "multimedia" in Glasgow which I absolutely loved. Little did I know that all I was learning would soon be able to be done on a device in our pockets smaller than a calculator, and would be quickly mastered by 8 year olds!
My first professional job was with a government agency making educational games, and was quickly promoted to senior developer of Interactive Content. Over time, the work shifted into building a portal for schools to access resources. Around then I had my own family, and I decided to leave to balance work and kids.
Building an agency
When the kids were young I moved into contracting for agencies and freelancing for myself. For about five or six years I did that with some great project for clients including Disney and The Science Centre. Along the way I built relationships with people I loved working with. A few of us came together to form a digital agency called From This Day.
We worked with clients who have taken millions through their online shops, as well as a wide mix of others: arts charities, craftspeople, small businesses, accommodation providers...
A stint in the startup world
I got an amazing opportinuty in the startup world, working on an app that generated meditations. I was there for nine months, managing a team of developers and helping bring a product to life. It taught me a lot about working with people and really highlighted the range and versatility of my skills across so many different online areas. It was very affirming to see my skills used in a different way and appreciate the breadth of my knowledge.
Finding my niche
Over the last couple of years I've explored a few different business directions and recently it became clear what my real unique skill is. It's not the coding (which I love), but its putting the broad range of skills I have to good use to help demystify tech and suport people into this world I'm so familar with! The answer was almost so obvious I overlooked it as my super power!
I genuinely love the co-creation process, that back-and-forth where we explore ideas together, try things, adjust, and slowly see your online presence take shape. Every client brings their own story, energy and way of working, and there is always something for me to learn from that.
I actually go way beyong the scope of a typical web developer, I really get invested in the clients I work with!
What I'm like to work with
- Calm, honest and encouraging
- Good at breaking things into manageable steps
- More "tea and chat" than "intense strategy workshop"
- Straight-talking when you need it, kind always
Think of me as the friend who understands websites, branding and online stuff – and actually enjoys it.
